Your CV looks ace, you know you can do the job but the interview process can sometimes throw a spanner in the works. So, to ensure that you nail it at the interview and secure the role you have always wanted here are Place Recruitments tips for interview success!

First impressions are so important! Arrive early so you aren’t late or flustered for your interview. Wear that fabulous interview outfit that is right for the type of company you are interviewing for. A corporate suit maybe not suit a brand new growing tech start-up in the same way that a cool funky outfit may not suit a Mayfair-based Private Equity firm. Be smart, tidy, and show that you are well-groomed and take pride in yourself. Always remember… Interviews start as soon as you enter the building so be friendly and professional at all times to everyone you engage with.

Make sure you know your facts. Researching is so important to impress the person you are interviewing with. Just regurgitating what is written on the website isn’t research by the way! Having those gems of information, you can use to impress could stand between you and that job. Look for recent news articles and information in the press.

Limit the number of interviews in a day. 2 interviews are enough! By the last interview, you will be exhausted, over-rehearsed and could get confused with interview information. You do not want to sound like you are tired of talking about yourself.

Check the map before leaving for the interview. Arrive 15 mins early, with smartphones there is no excuse to get lost. Being late shows you are ill-prepared and is not acceptable when interviewing at all.

Do not take over the interview. Think about your answers and give all the information needed without talking too much, you don’t want your interviewer to get lost in your answers.

Think of why you would be great for this role. Be prepared to be able to talk confidently about all your strengths.

Be yourself. Show the person conducting the interview that your wonderful person and that you have all the skills needed for the role.

Do not smoke before your interview! The smell of stale cigarettes is a no-go.

Don’t let your tact lapse. You need to demonstrate diplomatic behaviour.

Do not forget to smile! Do your best and enjoy it.
